Mike Friday is proud to bring you Friday Homes, an experienced and committed team of Certified Builders, Tradespeople, Design Specialists and Project Managers.
With 25 years’ experience in the building industry under his toolbelt, Mike is an established member of the Wellington building community. He has spent the past 20 years fine tuning the business, and driven by his vision to provide 5-star quality customer service, he has grown the company from one to 100 staff.
His career started with an apprenticeship with Pat Flanagan Builders, where he developed the groundwork knowledge and passion for building better homes. At the age of 18, he spent time working with Deboer Building Services where he expanded his understanding of commercial and residential work. By the time he reached 21, he was ready to take over the management of the family business. This independence and responsibility was a real learning curve for Mike, and he focused his energy on learning how to streamline and improve process when building quality homes.

The Friday Homes Way
Here at Friday Homes, we know that making the decision to build your own home isn’t one to be taken lightly. Your home may be your greatest investment. It’s your safe space, the place you spend time with your family, celebrate achievements and milestones, and build your most treasured memories. With this in mind, Friday Homes is committed to helping you create your unique masterpiece.
We offer an expansive range of house and land packages, or you can take inspiration from one of our plans to design a home that’s tailored to your tastes and needs. You’ll receive expert advice from our specialists to help you make informed decisions on what’s best for you, your family and the section on which you’re building.
Friday Homes uses a unique model in that we have in-house divisions for every area of the building process. We are a one-stop shop for all your building needs, with qualified carpenters, excavation, drainage divisions, electricians, plumbers, interior specialists and the rest of the Friday Homes’ team working together with one common goal – building better. This allows us to reduce construction costs, which enables you to include the things you really want in your new home build.
Our Project Management Team
Our Project Managers are qualified in their trade enabling their attention to detail and ensuring all workmanship is kept to a high standard. The process they follow mirrors that of our 5-step building process for house plans and house and land packages. They take extra care to understand your vision so we’re in the position to deliver quality results. Together with our Contract management software, your Project Manager will be your point of contact from beginning to end, ensuring you always have a friendly face to bounce ideas off.
The Friday Homes Building Process
1 Step One
The first step is for you to visit a Friday Homes’ Planning Advisor at your nearest regional show home. From there, we’ll help you on your journey through the initial planning and consent process. This means you’ll sit down with your local consultant to select one of our many House and Land packages on offer. You’ll then speak with our Interiors Specialist and Kitchen Designer who’ll advise you on materials and colour schemes for your new home.
Step Two is where the site works commence. After finalising your contract and issue of building consent, builders will break the ground and start to lay the foundations of your new home. You’ll also meet with your Project Manager who will set up your access to our on line project management tool, where you can keep up to date with your the progress of your build.
You will see your property starting to take shape in Step Three. Frames will go up – the strong backbone of your home – along with the walls, roofing, cladding, windows and doors. We know the importance of building stronger, so you can be confident your home will be safe and secure in the event of a storm or an earthquake. That’s why we use the most up-to-date seismic strengthening weather tight practices.
The interior fit-out. This is when we finish your home with electrical, heating and plumbing works, plastering, painting, flooring, kitchen, wardrobe, decorating, landscaping plus a final clean. You’ll meet with your Project Manager for an on-site update, to discuss your interiors and where your furniture might look best.
Step Five is everyone’s favourite. We’ll complete our extensive check process and walk-through with you before handing over your keys in time for the weekend, so you can enjoy the first of many Fridays in your new home.

Their FIXED PRICE CONTRACT was a testimony to all of the above. Over the course of our project very little changed. At the beginning the earthworks team did a superb job on the earthworks – a built-up driveway that stood up to the barrage of trucks, and excavations that left us with more flat area while using his nous to give us a nice curve on the retaining wall that enables a path up the bank. A retired builder friend observed that the house framing was quite well aligned/straight. Our builder was very flexible and helpful with my DIY work such as the storage attic and heat transfer system.
The finish is great. Outside and inside the painting quality is generally pretty good. The indoor spray paint finish on the framing and doors was nice. The gibbing and plastering was superb – with hardly a seam or nail mark to be found in the whole house.
We found our project manager to be great to deal with – easy to talk to and ‘particular’ enough on the things that mattered but easy-going and sensible overall. Whenever there were problems, he got it sorted.
The one year warranty was very valuable as there were a few little issues to fix that weren’t apparent when we first moved in, and were duly fixed.”

The day, gave up to 1800 children with life threatening illnesses, intellectual or physical disabilities, or those living in disadvantaged circumstances, a day they will never forget. The invitees were sourced through local schools and various government, community and charitable organisations that are involved with these children and their families on a daily basis.
It was a fun day for the children and their families. They received drinks, lollies, chippies, ice creams, energy bars, hamburgers, sandwiches, fruit juice, and fruit to keep the energy levels high. The arena was decked out like a mini Disneyland with jumping castles, face painting, and many more other characters, guests and activities to provide plenty of fun and entertainment! There was also an ongoing stage show with heaps of entertainment and celebrities.
The highlight of the day was when Santa arrived to greet the excited 4000 plus crowd. It was then off to the Santa’s HUGE toy cave filled with thousands of top quality gifts. Here, every child received a soft toy and 2 or 3 very high quality gifts to call their own. These gifts were purchased with the very generous support from all the wonderful businesses that sponsored this event.
Without the generous support of the business community from the region (and around New Zealand), the team from the SKY Television and Te Rauparaha Arena and all the helpers and volunteer groups who assisted on the day, this event simply would not have been possible. On behalf of all the children and families that attended the day, thank you, thank you, thank you!”
